Warm Up - It's Important.

Just a few pointers to help make yours and others participation at Cat's Whiskers Jive Club more enjoyable:

Warm up before you do this!It is generally acknowledged that engaging in regular physical activity can be an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.  It is recommended by some fitness and medical professionals that you should typically accumulate 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise on at least three days of the week.

It is gratifying to know, therefore, that not only can you thoroughly enjoy yourself at Cat's Whiskers with great music and dance in the company of other like minded individuals, but that you will also be contributing, in a positive way, to a healthier lifestyle!

Dancing to fast tempo Rock n Roll music can be very energetic and will undoubtedly raise your body's temperature, heart rate and breathing levels. So in order to prepare for such eventualities it is advisable to participate in some form of warm-up routine in order to minimise the possibility of injury during the more vigorous dance sessions.

Such a routine need not be too demanding or arduous and could comprise some simple stretching exercises for arm, legs and back or perhaps a gentle slow dance routine, anything that exercises and warms up the muscles, that will be used to a greater extent during the main evenings dance activity, will be advantageous.

Gentle exercise to warm up first! What ever routine you decide on it is important to remember not to enter into vigorous dance activity immediately on arrival at Cat's Whiskers when perhaps the likelihood of incurring some injury, however minor, is probably increased.  Take a little time to settle in and warm up first.  It is probably also advisable to avoid consuming alcohol or eating a heavy meal just prior to attending.

A 'warm-up' is included in the beginner's class [8:15 - 8:45 pm].

Of course, in the very rare likelihood that you should feel faint, experience nausea or dizziness then stop dancing straight away and alert either a friend or fellow dancer immediately.

The wearing of 'sharp' or 'chunky' type jewellery, rings or watches etc is not recommended as injury to yourself or dance partner is possible during some of the dance moves/sequences taught.

If these few simple common sense precautions outlined above are followed then your Cat's Whiskers dance experience should be all the more enjoyable and incident free.

Note: If you have, or currently suffer with spinal or joint pain or other similar problems you are advised to speak with your doctor before attending lessons at Cat's Whiskers.
