The Cat's Whiskers
Jive Club.
The club meets on Monday evenings at the East Grinstead Rugby Football Club. We aim to offer separate tuition for moves [6 count] for both beginners and intermediate dancers. Authentic jive/RnR/Swing music is provided by our own DJs. On occasion we have a live band either at the club or another venue. If you are a beginner, then you
can master the most difficult part...just by turning up. Even the
most accomplished dancers were beginners at one time!! |

The Club started in January (2001), with the aim of allowing singles and couples to learn, dance and socialise in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Tuition for absolute beginners is provided by Pete and Louise. Beginner's classes run for 10 weeks but it is possible to join part way through, just turn up early and discuss with Pete. Lessons start at 8:15 and last about 30 mins. Tuition for improver/intermediate dancers is provided by John and Andrea. Lessons usually start at 9:15 pm and last approx 30 mins. Freestyle dancing is available in between lessons and until about 10:30 pm. It is stressed that having a dance partner is NOT essential as we practice 'progressive' rock n roll so you will get to dance with many 'partners' throughout the evening. Authentic 1940's/1950's music is provided all evening for the lessons and freestyle sessions by one of our three DJs. This provides a great opportunity for practice and perfecting new moves. Drinks, at reasonable prices, are available from the bar situated just off the dance area. During the summer there is access to 'fresh air' from the outside balcony. Entry to the club is a very reasonable £5 per person which includes tuition. We hope to meet you soon and know you will enjoy yourselves. Any queries, see contact details below.
